Decorative acoustic finish controls Stadium Acoustics

Stadium acoustics due to the sheer size of the acoustic installation require economical acoustic solutions. With more stadiums needing to host music concerts to increase revenue, the stadiums acoustics are fundemental to the success of these events.

Wembley Stadium

During 2000, following the repositioning of the main stage at the original Wembley Stadium, concert goers complained to the management about poor stadium acoustics spoiling their enjoyment of the concert.

After extensive tests by an acoustic consultant, is was found that sound was reflecting off a 1.5m high wall that ran the perimeter of the stadium above the lower tear of seating.

Oscar Acoustics were contacted to apply 12mm of SonaSpray fc acoustic decorative finish to the face of the wall to correct the stadium acoustics.  The work was completed in just one week, causing minimum disruption to the tight entertainment schedule.  During this time, stadium tours were able to continue.
At the following Bee Gee’s concert, it was clear to hear that SonaSpray had economically corrected the problem of reflected sound from the wall.

      Seattle Kingdome

Home to the Seahawks and Mariners, the Seattle Kingdome also serves as a venue for major events.  Shortly before a Mariners game, falling ceiling tiles forced the facility to be closed, leaving Seattle without a stadium. Project officials needed a versatile and effective replacement in a hurry.

The new ceiling had to provide superior stadium acoustics and lighting control, match a specific colour for visibility and create an attractive finish for the scalloped surface. Equally important, the installation had to be completed in less than twenty six days.

SonaSpray K-13 effectively met all the project requirements. A 50mm thick coat of specially matched colour K-13 was applied to control the deafening noise generated by fans, improve the lighting and aesthetics of the stadium and proved to be a highly effective noise reduction insulation.

Given the go-ahead on September 28th, work began on October 4th. This 400,000 square feet project was completed nineteen days later, a week ahead of schedule.

Superior stadium acoustic control, custom colours, reduced acoustic reverberation, ability to conform to any substrate configuration and an attractive, uniform texture made SonaSpray K-13 the best ceiling finish choice for the Kingdome.
