Sonacoustic
Sonacoustic is a decorative, highly sound-absorbent ceiling and wall covering with a variable finish.  The surface can finished as stucco, with a light spray structure or plaster smooth.

Sonacoustic is applied in two or three operations

·       High density mineral batts are either directly fixed to the substrate using the recommended adhesive, or fixed to a frame leaving an air gap using screws and recommended retaining washers.  A primary coating of Sonacoustic is then spray applied, trowelled flat and left to dry.

·        The primary coat surface is machined smooth and the top coat is spray applied It is the final coating that determines the finish.  This can either be left as a stucco finish or trowelled to leave an extremely fine plaster like finish.

Sonacoustic CL        – Sprayed stucco finish is left as sprayed

Sonacoustic PL        – Extremely fine plaster like finish trowelled flat

Sonacoustic Elite     – Allow material to dry then machine the surface flat and smooth

To meet a required acoustic performance, Sonacoustic is applied using four different methods:

- Sprayed directly onto substrate at a minimum of 5mm.

- Onto high density 20mm glass fibre batts that are fixed directly to the substrate.

- Onto high density 20mm glass fibre batts that are fixed to a frame creating an air gap.

- Onto thicker high density glass fibre batts that are fixed to a frame creating an air gap.

Typical applications:
Restaurants, office reception areas and high specification apartments and houses where the designers desire for hard flat surfaces can lead to noise reverberation problems.

Consult Oscar Acoustics technical literature for details. Oscar Acoustics can also advise with design and specification and it is recommended that they are consulted early in the design process.

120 SPRAYED ACOUSTIC CONTROL COATING TO . . . . . . . .

Survey: Carry out before installation commences.

Preparation:
Fibre glass batts to be fixed and primary coat applied before the installation of Clips, hangers, supports and associated type attachments [by others]. Then the spray application of the top coat to take place before the installation of ducts, piping and other suspended items. However if access is good with minimal obstruction the spray coats could be applied after the installation of services consult contractor.

Pattresses to be installed for light fittings / smoke sensors etc prior to Sonacoustic application to allow firm fixing for the fitting.
Pattresses to be made from plasterboard or wood not MDF which can stain the material when wet.

Wood pattresses to be fully painted to prevent any staining of material from contaminents.

Pattresses to be slightly smaller than the base of the fitting to ensure the fitting covers the pattress which should not be seen.

Pattresses to be the same thickness as the Sonacoustic.

A finishing edge will be required for the Sonacoustic where it does not occur naturally eg around an opening for services to pass through a ceiling or around a staircase opening. Consult the contractor.

The surface to receive Sonacoustic to be inspected prior to application to determine if priming/sealing is required to ensure bond and/or to prevent discolouration by migratory stains. Prime seal accordingly, consult contractor.
The contractor must install as necessary protection to other finished surfaces from overspray.

The manufacturer recommends good ventilation for best drying conditions. Where this does not occur naturally, introduce fans and open windows, in reasonable conditions coats should dry in 4-5 days - Consult contractor.

Barrier/ Bonding coat: Consult with Oscar Acoustics for recommendations and details.
